Secure disposal of unwanted computers, laptops, mobile phones, hard drives and SSDs for businesses and households across Swindon and Wiltshire.
Old IT equipment can retain personal, financial and confidential information long after it has stopped being used. M4 Self Store provides a straightforward local service for the collection or drop-off of redundant equipment, secure physical data destruction where required, and responsible WEEE recycling.
Data-bearing media requiring physical destruction is handled through appropriately authorised and accredited specialist destruction partners. A Certificate of Destruction can be provided following the destruction process.
Our standard service currently covers the following equipment. If you have other electrical items, contact us first so we can confirm whether we can help.
Old office computers, home PCs and redundant desktop machines.
Business and personal laptops, including machines that no longer operate.
Standalone hard disk drives (HDDs), solid-state drives (SSDs) and suitable data-bearing computer storage drives.
Old business and personal mobile phones can be accepted for secure physical destruction.
We have kept the process straightforward for both one-off household devices and larger business clearances.
Let us know the approximate number and type of devices you need to dispose of. We can then advise on the most suitable arrangement and quotation.
Bring suitable equipment to our Marshgate facility in Swindon or arrange collection from your home or business premises.
Where equipment contains storage media requiring secure destruction, the relevant data-bearing media is identified for the specialist destruction process.
Data-bearing media is physically destroyed through appropriately authorised and accredited specialist destruction partners. M4 does not currently offer software data wiping.
Equipment that has reached the end of its useful life can then be handled through an appropriate WEEE recycling route.
A Certificate of Destruction can be provided following secure destruction, with waste transfer documentation supplied where applicable.
Old computers can retain more information than many people realise. Sending files to the Recycle Bin, deleting folders or simply formatting a drive does not necessarily mean the underlying information has been irreversibly removed.
This is particularly important when disposing of business equipment or personal devices that have contained confidential information. ICO guidance: The Information Commissioner’s Office advises that deleting files or formatting a device does not necessarily securely erase the information it contains. Read the ICO guidance on deleting data from computers and other devices.
A broken computer does not necessarily mean the data is gone. A desktop or laptop can fail because of another component while the storage drive remains readable. Read Our full article

Hard drives and SSDs deserve particular attention because they are often the components containing the information organisations are most concerned about.
M4 can accept standalone hard disk drives (HDDs) and solid-state drives (SSDs), as well as drives contained within computers and laptops. Where physical destruction has been requested, data-bearing media is handled through our specialist physical destruction process using appropriately authorised and accredited destruction partners rather than simply being deleted or reformatted.
A Certificate of Destruction can be provided following the destruction process.
M4 does not currently offer software data wiping. If your requirement is specifically for software erasure followed by continued use of the same storage drive, please discuss this with us before booking.
Secure data destruction is only one part of disposing of redundant IT equipment properly. Once the data security issue has been dealt with, the remaining electrical equipment still needs an appropriate disposal route.
M4 Self Store can handle WEEE recycling as part of the service, giving businesses and households a practical alternative to leaving redundant computers piled in an office, storeroom, garage or spare room.
Where applicable, suitable waste transfer documentation can also be supplied. M4’s collection arrangements are supported by A. Luckes & Son, which holds a waste carrier registration. Waste carrier registration number: XXXXX.
No. Sometimes a computer has reached the end of its usefulness to one organisation but could still have a useful life elsewhere.
If you are happy for suitable equipment to be considered for reuse or refurbishment, tell us when arranging the service. Where reuse is appropriate, the original data-bearing hard drive or SSD is removed and physically destroyed before the equipment follows a reuse route, helping to ensure the previous user’s information does not remain with the device.
If you specifically require physical destruction of data-bearing storage media, make this clear when booking.
The service is particularly useful for organisations replacing or clearing multiple devices. Redundant IT equipment commonly accumulates after office moves, equipment upgrades, refurbishments, downsizing or changes to working practices.
Rather than leaving old PCs and laptops occupying valuable office or storage space, M4 can help arrange their collection, secure destruction where required, and responsible disposal.
An office move or refurbishment often creates several different problems at the same time. There may be furniture that needs storing, records that need retaining, confidential paperwork that needs shredding and computers that are no longer required.
This makes M4 particularly useful when a business is relocating, refurbishing or clearing premises and wants practical local support across several related requirements.
If you only have a small number of devices, suitable PCs, laptops, hard drives, SSDs and mobile phones can be brought directly to M4 Self Store at Marshgate Industrial Estate.

Please contact us before travelling so that we can confirm what you are bringing, the cost and the appropriate arrangements.
Collection can be arranged from business or residential premises and is often the better option for organisations clearing multiple devices.
For larger quantities, pricing can be based around the overall volume and collection requirements rather than simply treating every job as a single-device disposal.
Our IT disposal pricing is based on the number of items you need us to handle. The rates below cover the disposal service, with collection and any additional logistical requirements quoted separately where applicable.
Please note: The prices above are per item for the disposal service itself. Additional charges may apply for collection, depending on your location, the number of items, access requirements and the time involved. Larger commercial clearances, unusual access situations or collections outside the local Swindon area may require a separate quotation. We will confirm all applicable charges before you book.

Tell us what equipment you need to dispose of and whether you would prefer to bring it to Marshgate or arrange collection.
For larger business clearances, an approximate quantity is enough to get the conversation started. We can then confirm the most appropriate destruction, recycling or reuse route and provide a quotation.
